The Colavita Women’s Cycling Team dominates the Fitchburg-Longsjo Classic
The Colavita/Sutter Home Women’s Cycling Team presented by Cooking Light wins three of four stages at Fitchburg-Longsjo Classic. They brought a strong squad comprised of Kelly Benjamin, Cath Cheatley, Andrea Dvorak, Rachel Heal, Stacy Marple, Carmen McNellis, and Tina Pic to the 50th edition of the race and the results arrived. Tina Pic won the 28-lap criterium finale of the Fitchburg-Longsjo Classic and Kelly Benjamin finished second in the overall points classification. Andrea Dvorak captured her first NRC victory in the 64-mile stage three Mount Wachusett Road Race: when the chase group was absorbed by the peloton in the final kilometers of the race, Andrea was rewarded for her valiant solo effort with a victory. For the stage two State College Circuit Race, the team planned to ride aggressively and go for the green points jersey. The women executed the plan perfectly. Cath Cheatley attacked the last time through the hill and drew out competitors, forcing the field to react and let Colavita/Sutter Home prepare to set Tina Pic in place. Tina then galloped away to deliver a sprint victory with a five-second gap ahead of Jen McRae (Team Type 1) and Evelyn Stevens (Lip Smackers). With three victories at Fitchburg-Longsjo, the Colavita/Sutter Home Women’s Cycling Team advances to third place in the NRC team standings. Cath Cheatley and Tina Pic rank in the top 10 in the women’s individual standings. Good news also from the Colavita/Sutter Home Men’s Cycling Team presented by Cooking Light, with Luis Amaran who finished second in the men’s 55-lap criterium.
