Granfondo Fausto Coppi - Selle San Marco
A new edition of the “La Fausto Coppi-Selle San Marco” is coming and new ideas and passion push us as always to give and do our best to make this event memorable each year. For the riders, of course, but also for their friends and relatives and for town of Cuneo, that lives a weekend where cycling interweaves with the history of this sport, written by legendary riders such as the “Campionissimo” and by companies like Selle San Marco. “The Fausto Coppi will be the Cycling Marathon of Selle San Marco also in 2012” “We like the idea to feel this event as ours, not only because it represents the referential Marathon for Selle San Marco, but also because it reflects values close to the spirit of our company. Sacrifice, hard work and care that you need to do such an effort, as to complete this cycling marathon, where you have to ride historical climb and that cyclists love really because of the tough course, one of the hardest of all. Along with the over two thousand athletes, we were able to share 2 days of “real cycling”, during which we spoke to them, showed them our news and made “human” relationships that you can do only through an exclusive event such as this marathon is". An excellent international stage where History and Tradition are mixed with Innovation. The last year edition, indeed, has been an event where the athletes and the public were able to enjoy the glorious past of this company through an Exhibition "museum" where we exposed also the saddle of the “Campionissimo”, but also where you can test in World preview the new Concor saddle, used by pro riders as Scarponi, Petacchi and many others throughout the season”. During the last edition days, indeed, have been really many the activities proposed by the historical company – producer of hand-made saddles for bicycles – that also for 2012 wants to involve the public and the riders with enjoyable moments of entertainment, where there will be the chance to test first-hand the new products. Starting off from Piacenza Expo, after about 8 kilometres towards Val Trebbia, the riders will join the strada statale to Gossolengo. Once at the Passo, an 8 kilometres long descent to Bettola, in the Val Nure region, and from there 10 more kilometres, at high speed, to Ponte dellŐ Olio for the last tough hurdle of the course: the famous Bagnolo ascent, which always terrifies the local amateurs. While this climb is steep it is not prohibitively so (12-13%); what sets it apart from the others is that itŐs a long straight road with only three curves; you may get the impression that youŐll never see the end of it, even if itŐs only 1.3 kilometres, and the last tough stretch of the day. From this point the road continues with no difficulties until the long descent to Nibbiano and the statale 45, and the 19 kilometres back to Piacenza Expo, where a well deserved shower and a plate of pasta will be waiting after such a long day.
